Our story began with a janitor, a U-haul and a trip to Georgia. Back in 1969, Otto noticed the carpet in downtown Toledo office buildings couldn't be saved. It wasn’t because he was bad at his job, but because the carpet was cheap. That’s when he and his wife Dee rented a U-haul, drove to a carpet mill in Georgia with no account or line of credit and said, “I want to buy some carpet.” This eventually turned into the family business of Carpets By Otto that’s been helping Northwest Ohio homeowners find their dream floors ever since.
Since then, the second generation took the reins. Kelly and Michael Brown took over during COVID to protect the business that their family built from the ground up. Literally. Kelly grew up in the showrooms. From doing homework to riding two-wheelers and helping her dad measure, these stores are home to the Brown family.
When you step into our Landmark Showroom on Angola Road, you’ll notice. It’s a bright, open space with natural light, real room vignettes, faux-finished walls and abstract art painted by Kelly and comfortable spots to sit while you think about your flooring. Rather than feeling like a showroom or concrete warehouse with fluorescent lighting, you’ll feel like you’re stepping into someone’s living room.

Hardwood flooring is built to last a lifetime and even a little longer. In our Landmark Showroom, you’ll find solid hardwood, engineered hardwood and specialty styles like herringbone in light, dark and everything in between. With proper installation and basic care, hardwood floors will last and when they start showing their age, you can always sand and refinish them.
LVP and LVT are favorites in our showroom and it’s easy to see why. Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) looks like hardwood and has a waterproof core that’s made to take on kitchens, bathrooms and basements without breaking a sweat. Meanwhile, luxury vinyl tile (LVT) does the same, but looks more like ceramic or stone tile. Both options are scratch-resistant, comfortable underfoot and built for busy homes, pets and kids. The floating click-and-lock installation also makes things simple.
Soft, warm and versatile, carpet is perfect for bedrooms, living rooms, basements and stairs. Our showrooms provide wall-to-wall carpet, carpet tile runners and area rugs in several colors, textures, fibers and pile heights. Kelly’s Modern Oasis collection offers five curated color stories made for Northwest Ohio homes. Plush comfort and tough options are available for the family room.

Our in-house rug artisan, Robbie would love to create custom-cut, custom-bound area rugs in any size or shape including circles, ovals, runners and templates. Made from high-quality broadloom, it’s a great way to add warmth, texture or a design statement to any room and you won’t find this craftsmanship at a big-box store.

Get that hardwood look without the hardwood price tag. Plus, these floors are scratch-resistant, easy to maintain and built with busy homes in mind. Laminate planks and tiles are available from top manufacturers like Shaw, Mohawk, Engineered Floors and Mannington. We vet each product and make sure we would put it in our own homes. Plus, the floating floor installation lets us finish most rooms within a single day.
Tile is tough and with proper installation, this flooring can last for decades. Ceramic tile, porcelain tile and SPC flooring is available for kitchens, bathrooms, entryways, backsplashes and shower installations. We take care of layout planning, subfloor prep, waterproofing and grouting so your tile job is done right the first time.

Once we measure your space and review your options, we give you clear Autopilot quotes. This one per-square foot number covers materials, premium pad, furniture moving, tear-out and disposal, delivery, tax and installation without the hidden fees, mystery charges or fine print. We also give a three-day right to rescind for peace of mind.

We don’t find installers by browsing through strangers on a job board. Most of our team has been with us for 20 to 30 years. We make sure everything comes together. Our team takes care of subfloor assessment, moisture checks, material acclimation, precise measurements, clean transitions and the finishing touches. Carpet, hardwood, LVP, laminate and tile each have their own installation methods that can make or break the floor. We back each project with our lifetime installation guarantee.
Stairs require precision and experience that you can’t replicate. We custom-cut treads, risers, nosings and transitions to give you a safe, cohesive look with the rest of your home. Between carpet runners with premium padding, hardwood and LVP, our installers make sure your stairs are sturdy, beautiful and built to last.

Before we install your new floors, we have to remove your old ones. People don’t think much about what goes on underneath their floors, but it does matter. We remove and dispose of carpet, hardwood, vinyl and tile. Then, we check the subfloor for moisture issues or damage before moving forward.

In older Toledo homes, uneven subfloors aren’t uncommon. Settling, moisture and age create dips and high spots that cause shifting floors, hollow sounds and visible imperfections.
